Dr. Marie Hardin, Dean of the Penn State College of Communication, presented “The Paralympics and the Future of Spectator Sport” as part of the Academic Spotlight Speaker series. The event was held Thursday, October 20 in the Ferguson Student Center, on the University of Alabama campus.
The Fifth Annual Alabama Program in Sports Communication Symposium was held on January 27, 2017 on the University of Alabama campus in Gorgas 205. ESPN’s Kevin Blackistone gave the keynote address, titled “College’s Working Class: Black Athletes as Pawns in the University System.” A full detailing of the event can be found in the provided program.

As part of the Sollege Sport Forum, Dr. Jan Boxill, formerly of the University of North Carolina, discussed the UNC athletics scandal from an insider’s perspective. Jon Dever from UA Athletics also talked about how the University of Alabama works to prevent similar situations. The event took place Thursday, September 22 in 216 Reese Phifer Hall at 7 p.m.
The Alabama Program in Sports Communication is part of a five-school consortium holding national events on key sports issues. The first event was held on February 19, 2016 in Atlanta, GA focusing on media coverage of the Olympics. The program from the event can be found here.
The Fourth Annual Alabama Program in Sports Communication Symposium was held on February 5, 2016 on the University of Alabama campus in Gorgas 205.
