Sequence in Sports Broadcasting

The Journalism and Creative Media department offers an emphasis in sports
broadcasting. Classes in the sports broadcasting emphasis prepare students for careers as announcers, broadcast sports journalists, and behind-the-scenes production personnel. TCF also offers an extensive internship program that provides students with learning opportunities in professional broadcast settings around the world. In addition, students may choose to take advantage of numerous extracurricular learning opportunities while on campus (e.g. ESPNUWVUA-TVCrimsonTide Productions).

Sequence in Sports Journalism

The Journalism and Creative Media department offers both a major track and a formal minor in Sports News and Information. Students learn the basic reporting and writing skills for print, online, and mobile media as well as digital media production. All students learn photojournalism and news writing skills and then go on to specialized sports journalism classes and internships. In addition to covering sports for Dateline Alabama (our news website) students are guaranteed a sports-related internship at The Tuscaloosa Newsal.com, the UA Athletics Department, or one of our other sports journalism partners. Recent sports-related internships held by majors included ESPNSports IllustratedThe Tampa Times, and several sport teams.

Specialization in Sport and Entertainment Communication Management

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations offers a public relations specialization in Sport and Entertainment Communication Management. Students in this specialization learn specific skills to work in sport, entertainment and tourism organizations, including athlete and artist image management, community relations, fan marketing and promotion, media relations and event sponsorship, pricing and planning. Students also gain real-world experience through collaborations and partnerships with several organizations, including FOX Sports, ESPN, NASCAR, the Peach Bowl and the Country Music Association.
