ESPN’s Bob Ryan visited campus Thursday, February 23, as the Industry Spotlight Speaker. The event took place at 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Center, Room 3104. Bob Ryan’s interview was free and open to the public.

The University of Alabama Program in Sports Communication seeks submissions for its fifth annual Sports Symposium to be held Friday, January 27, 2017. The keynote speaker for the event will be sports journalist Kevin Blackistone.

Academic Spotlight: The Paralympics and the Future of Spectator Sport

digital signs-02Dr. Marie Hardin, Dean of the Penn State College of Communication, will present “The Paralympics and the Future of Spectator Sport” as part of the Academic Spotlight Speaker series. The event will be held Thursday, October 20 in the Ferguson Student Center, Room 3104 at 4 p.m.

College Sport Forum: Inside the UNC Athletics Scandal

As part of the Sollege Sport Forum, Dr. Jan Boxill, formerly of the University of North Carolina, discussed the UNC athletics scandal from an insider’s perspective. Jon Dever from UA Athletics also talked about how the University of Alabama works to prevent similar situations. The event took place Thursday, September 22 in 216 Reese Phifer Hall at 7 p.m.

Sports Media Consortium

The Alabama Program in Sports Communication is part of a five-school consortium holding national events on key sports issues.  The first event was held on February 19, 2016 in Atlanta, GA focusing on media coverage of the Olympics. The program from the event can be found here.

APSC Symposium

The Fourth Annual Alabama Program in Sports Communication Symposium was held on February 5, 2016 on the University of Alabama campus in Gorgas 205.  Michael Butterworth (Ohio University) gave the keynote and Jennifer Hale (FOX NFL Sideline Reporter) was special guest.  A full detailing of the event can be found in the program here.
